Abstract (eng)
This master's thesis presents the discourse on the topic of 'artists as educators' and compares, evaluates and defines the individual roles in the current education system. First, the introductory chapter lists the research question, the objective, the embedding of the thesis and the literature review. The terms 'art' and '(music) education' as well as the professions of professional musician and (music) educator are examined. Several chapters deal with general music education, its definition and subdivision into the main and secondary profession of the teacher. The term 'teaching artist' is outlined and, with the help of Eric Booth, American writer, artist and educator, placed in a historical context with a view to the present and the future. At the end of this chapter, the assessment aspects of the teaching profession, so-called 'Plan B' teaching and the professional occupational qualifications of music, instrumental and/or vocal teachers are explored. After a comparison of the different professional aspects, the results are analysed with the help of an interview with the Slovenian trumpet player and teacher Miha Salobir, who reports his experiences and opinions. The evaluation focuses on the description of the characteristics, reasons for choosing a profession, competences and professional knowledge as well as the study data from various literary sources. Likewise, from the insights of the teaching artists, the work analysis is expanded and assessed with the school and study background. The integration of the new aspects about artists as educators will be summarised in conclusion. This thesis is instructive for students in the field of music education as well as for decision makers in the field of arts, education and/or training in the world of musicology. The Master's thesis can form a basis for future research questions, as the insights gained can point the way for new projects.
